VISTA Assignment Objectives and Member Activities
Goal of the Project:
The goal of this project is to alleviate poverty by increasing economic opportunities for young adults in the Trenton community. The VISTA will build capacity by creating a comprehensive internship program at HJAHC across multiple departments, including finance, human resources, operations, clinical, dental, and media and communications. This program will focus on skill-building, professional development, and creating pathways for long-term employment. improve economic opportunity for the participating interns from the greater Trenton community.
Objective 1: Develop tools to identify internship opportunities within HJAHC.
Time Frame: Ongoing
Member Activities:
  1. Review HJAHC’s organizational structure and strategic goals.
  2. Design and distribute surveys to department managers to identify internship opportunities.
  3. Compile and analyze survey results to inform internship placements.
Objective 2: Establish a structured orientation process for interns.
Time Frame: Ongoing
Member Activities:
  1. Evaluate current onboarding policies and processes.
  2. Collaborate with HR staff to design an intern-specific Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  3. Draft and finalize the intern-specific SOP to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

 
Objective 3: Develop formal agreements with educational institutions.
Time Frame: Ongoing
Member Activities:
  1. Draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) tailored to collaborations with universities and colleges.
  2. Facilitate agreements with local universities, colleges, and high schools.
  3. Implement MOUs to formalize partnerships.
Objective 4: Build a structured internship program with clear learning objectives and evaluation mechanisms.
Time Frame: Ongoing
Member Activities:
  1. Design a framework for internships, including position descriptions, learning objectives, and program goals.
  2. Work with department supervisors to create department-specific goals and learning outcomes.
  3. Develop tools to assess intern performance and gather feedback from supervisors.
  4. Create policies to ensure academic quality and integrity in internships.
  5. Conduct site visits to assess and refine the program.
Objective 5: Create a marketing strategy to recruit interns.
Time Frame: Ongoing
Member Activities:
  1. Design a targeted marketing strategy for intern recruitment.
  2. Establish partnerships with universities and educational institutions in Trenton, including The College of New Jersey and Mercer County Community College.
  3. Develop a list of local educational institutions for promotion efforts.
  4. Draft a marketing plan, including materials and event promotions.
  5. Collaborate on program material production and outreach publications.
Objective 6: Establish a social media platform for intern engagement.
Time Frame: Ongoing
Member Activities:
  1. Research and select the most appropriate social media platform for intern communication and networking.
  2. Compile online resources to support the program.
  3. Facilitate the creation and management of the platform for intern engagement.
