MAJOR FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Lead Security Officer position at Henry J. Austin Health Center will be responsible for overseeing and directing security operations, ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. He or she will be responsible for maintaining order, preventing crime, and enforcing policies. This involves leading a team of security personnel, monitoring activities, scheduling shifts, and responding to emergencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Leadership and Supervision: Oversee and supervise the operations of the security unit, including scheduling, training, and evaluating staff.
- Security Operations: Monitor shift activities, establish work schedules, and manage requests for time off.
- Safety and Security: Patrol and monitor areas to prevent fire, theft, and other hazards.
- Incident Response: Respond to emergencies and security issues as they arise, including reporting incidents and coordinating with other agencies.
- Policy Enforcement: Enforce access control, security policies, and other rules.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain records of daily activities, incident reports, and other relevant documentation.
- Collaboration: Work with other departments and external agencies to maintain security and safety.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
- Emergency Response: Develop and participate in emergency response plans and crisis management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in security or law enforcement preferred
- Proven experience in a security role, preferably within a healthcare or similar environment
- Strong understanding of security protocols and emergency response procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations
Preferred:
- Experience with surveillance systems and monitoring equipment
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution
- Shelter in Place & Active Shooter Training
- Fire & Safety Training
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a currently valid and unrestricted driver's license.
- Successfully completed American Red Cross first-aid and CPR course, or equivalent.
- Possession of the SORA license
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER (KSAO’s)
- Proficiency in operating security equipment such as CCTV, access control systems, and alarm systems
- Familiarity with incident reporting software and communication tools
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes
- Strong observational skills with keen attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to problem-solving

This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers and other office equipment. The position requires the physical ability to kneel, bend, and perform light lifting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the working conditions are good with little or no exposure to extremes in health, safety hazards and/or hazardous materials.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and use hands to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work requires considerable walking to complete tours. Ability to tolerate high noise conditions and exposure to weather conditions on outside tours.
